Poggio Umbricchio

Poggio Umbricchio (700 m above sea level) is a small village perched on the rock at the entrance to the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. Situated on the left bank of the Vomano River, it looks towards the Due Corni mountain range.

Site of a previous Roman settlement, as evidenced by the remains discovered on site, it began as a medieval settlement and was also a bandits' refuge in the past. The stone buildings stand out among the enchanting panoramas. Today, Poggio Umbricchio is also popular with expert climbers for its interesting bouldering area.

The village can be visited by taking a half-hour drive from Prati di Tivo.
