Gran Sasso Water Center Museum

The Gran Sasso Water Center Museum is one of the museums in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. The facility is located in San Pietro (municipality of Isola del Gran Sasso), a village nestled in the splendid scenery of the Brancastello and Prena Mountains, from whose slopes abundant spring waters originate.

The Center, the first in Italy, illustrates the water cycle, with the formation of the mountains, the history of mankind, explorers, and users of this precious resource. It offers a unique educational-exploratory itinerary that, through the natural and human environments of the Park, invites reflection on the value of the irreplaceable and exhaustible resource of water.

The rooms are set up using the most innovative and exciting means of museography and educational media that describe the water cycle with images and multimedia experiences from both a scientific and cultural perspective.

The museum is divided into various thematic sections: water and the mountains; water and energy; water and rock; water and exploration; water and human labor; water and technology; water in worship, poetry, and myth.

Furthermore, the facility is equipped with a special path for the blind, for whom a path through the woods over a kilometer long has been created outside.

The S. Pietro Center carries out both educational activities and research, study, and observation of water in various ecosystems.
