Colledara

A small village on the slopes of the Gran Sasso d'Italia, about an hour's drive from Prati di Tivo.
Its history is closely linked to that of Castiglione della Valle, the ancient seat of the municipality, known as Castrum Leonis Vallis Sicilianae or Castrum Vallem and dating back to the medieval, if not Roman, periods.

It is said that Lucrezia Borgia and Alfonso of Aragon took refuge in the small mountain village in 1499 to escape the persecution of Duke Valentino (Cesare Borgia), Lucrezia's brother.

Today, Colledara is above all known for one of its culinary delicacies, Porchetta, a tradition that now boasts over 150 years. This highly enjoyable and tasty dish requires a rather laborious and delicate preparation consisting of numerous stages.
